COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

Our staff previously provided five years of service at Hampton University’s Student Counseling Center and developed a very good understanding of the unique needs and challenges that college students face when it comes to their mental health. Our safeTALK facilitator, Petra, is passionate about being able to empower and equip the entire campus community to have the basic skills needed to take care of their mental health and recognize the signs of distress in fellow students and colleagues. As such, Petra believes that the responsibility of maintaining healthy mental health falls on the entire campus population and not just their counseling centers! That is why we want extend an offer for partnership in training your campus communities in safeTALK.

To date, Petra has trained Residence Life staff in safeTALK and they themselves have described it as an excellent resource for them given they’re often on the front lines to support students in the immediacy of their needs. She has also trained students, faculty and departments, and other staff and received great feedback from those participants about the helpfulness of the course as well. Individuals receiving safeTALK are often appreciative of having learned new skills to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges that they previously felt unequipped to offer help to. They've reported feeling more confident in making their campus community a safer place for themselves and everyone around them. Students who major in Humanities and Behavioral Sciences or have who have a particular interest in working in the mental health field after graduation have been particularly appreciative of gaining tangible suicide intervention skills as they’re entering into the field. Suicide prevention is everyone’s business! She's very passionate about this topic and would be thrilled to have an opportunity to work with you and your campus.
